This team works across the full spectrum of financial specialisms. Trainee work is no different, with tasks including drafting, assisting with signings and deal management.
Lending and Restructuring helps clients navigate complex financial situations. They advise for borrowers and lenders for corporate lending, real estate finance and leverage finance. They also assist in restructuring existing financial arrangements to ensure sustainability and compliance.
Assets, Trade & Export Finance focuses on financing related to assets, trade, and exports. They guide clients through transactions involving large assets (like aircraft, helicopters and vessels), physical and financial commodities (including crops), and facilitating international trade
Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Structured Finance, Derivatives Support clients in raising capital through debt, creating and managing complex financial instruments and navigating the world of derivatives.

Competition addremove
Competition helps clients navigate competition laws. This includes merger control notifications to relevant authorities, or foreign investment reviews. The group also represent clients in competition investigations, even attending dawn raids. They also advise & represent clients in litigation matters. Trainees here get to interview witnesses and undertake complex market research.

Corporate addremove
Corporate handles a broad range of transactions for private and publics companies. This includes mergers and acquisitions, sale and purchase of shares, IPO’s (where companies list on the stock exchange), venture capital, joint venture due diligence and corporate governance. Trainees will be involved in transactions for private and public companies.

Dispute Resolution addremove
With a split between International Arbitration, Restructuring, Financial Disputes and Commercial Disputes, work here is connected by resolving disputes between parties.
Regulatory & Investigations advises on both contentious and non-contentious regulatory work. Our team is well known for our work on high profile money laundering and fraud cases in the financial services sector and we have a track record of conducting investigations for governments, corporate clients and individuals in a wide variety of sectors on issues relating to white collar crime. We have a dedicated team on international trade (including export controls, national security and sanctions), financial regulatory and environment-related regulatory issues.
Litigation and Arbitration offers dispute resolution solutions from mediation and risk management advice to complex, cross-border litigation in the courts. We offer a depth of experience in specialist areas such as financial markets and energy, and a breadth of expertise in commercial disputes and international arbitration across all sectors.
Restructuring and Insolvency combines the expertise of specialists in disputes, banking and finance, real estate and corporate matters and assists clients in all areas of domestic and international restructuring and contentious and non-contentious insolvency matters. The team acts for creditors, insolvency practitioners and insolvent clients.

The Projects group allows us to drive collaboration and build on cross-practice strengths to provide the strongest market presence and best client experience on complex construction, re-development, energy, government, infrastructure and transport projects. Trainee work will have a strong focus on business development, research and drafting.

People, Reward & Mobility (PRM) advises on employment contracts & represent clients at tribunals. They also support with advisory work and corporate deals especially around employee benefits (including pensions), and immigration issues. The team are often involved in multijurisdictional and cross-border employment cases and projects. Think contentious and high court work. Employment law is constantly changing and trainees have to keep up with cases and rulings.

Real Estate addremove
Dentons’ Real Estate and Planning teams collaborate seamlessly to provide comprehensive legal support across all aspects of real estate law. From property transactions to land use disputes, our services encompass the full spectrum of real estate matters. Our transactional focus includes sales and acquisitions of land or property, asset management, lease reviews, and property financing. Divided between Transactional Real Estate, Planning and Housing & Care. Trainees see it all. They draft, manage deals and work with the Land Registry.

Tax assists clients in managing their tax obligations effectively. They advise on tax issues across corporate, banking, real estate, employment and private client for a wide variety of clients across the firm. The work is often cross-border and will involve advising on multi-jurisdictional structures. Trainees are client-facing, assist with negotiations, calculate fees and complete research.

Technology, Media & Telecommunications addremove
Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT) is a full service practice providing best-in-class advice across information technology, outsourcing and digital transformation, commercial contracts, data advisory, privacy and cybersecurity, intellectual property (IP) including IP litigation, patents and trademarks and telecommunications. Trainees become integrated through client meetings, drafting and researching cases.

Dentons Advises UK Government on Vital Energy Market Interventions
Dentons is proud to have provided legal counsel to the UK Government in its efforts to implement interventions in the energy markets aimed at reducing energy bills for households and businesses. These interventions were made possible through the Energy Prices Act 2022 and are a crucial step towards ensuring affordable energy access.
The UK Government recently introduced three significant initiatives:
- Energy Price Guarantee for Households: Ensuring that households can access energy at reasonable rates.
- Energy Bill Relief Scheme for Businesses: Providing much-needed support to businesses in managing energy costs.
- Extension of the Energy Bill Support Scheme to Northern Ireland: Expanding the reach of vital energy support.
Dentons assembled a dedicated team of lawyers encompassing various specialties, including energy and public law, drawn from our UK offices. This collaborative effort is ongoing and reflects the broad scope of the project. To address the specific legal and regulatory considerations relevant to the schemes in Northern Ireland and the all-island area, Dentons engaged Tughans law firm in Northern Ireland. This collaboration ensured a comprehensive approach to legal support. Dentons and Tughans have worked closely with The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) legal team. Our involvement extends to supporting policy development, preparing legislation, scheme documents, and contracts.

Supporting P3 Logistic Parks' Entry into the UK Market
In a significant move, P3 Logistic Parks (P3) ventured into the UK market with the acquisition of two logistics assets from SEGRO.
These assets, fully occupied and developed to meet institutional-grade specifications, including a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, underscore the strategic significance of this transaction. P3, a key player in Europe’s logistics real estate sector, manages a substantial portfolio of over 7.9 million square meters of assets across 12 countries, with nearly two decades of expertise in European markets. The Dentons team, led by Alex Coulter, provided crucial guidance to P3 throughout this landmark acquisition.

This acquisition demonstrates P3’s strategic vision and ambitious growth plans. Facilitating Informa PLC's Acquisition of Tarsus Group
Dentons played a pivotal role in advising Informa PLC, a renowned international Academic Markets, B2B Markets, and Digital Services Group, on the acquisition of Tarsus Group at an initial enterprise value of U$940 million. This strategic merger significantly enhances Informa’s presence in growing regions and markets, marking a milestone in their expansion journey.
Neil Nicholson, Head of Corporate at Dentons, expressed his satisfaction in supporting Informa, a valued and longstanding client, in this complex cross-border deal. The transaction was executed swiftly and efficiently, exemplifying Dentons commitment to delivering top-notch service to clients like Informa.
Dentons multijurisdictional and multidisciplinary team provided comprehensive legal support to Informa across all aspects of the transaction. Our teams offered counsel in corporate matters, anti-trust considerations, employment issues, banking and finance, data privacy, intellectual property, and tax matters. ORIX Aviation: Restructuring PT Garuda Indonesia
Dentons provided legal counsel to ORIX Aviation, a prominent operating lessor, in connection with the US$9.58 billion in-court restructuring of PT Garuda Indonesia (Garuda), the Indonesian flag carrier. This complex transaction involved restructuring various leases to the airline and trading claims within the restructuring process. Dentons’ aviation finance, insolvency, and corporate teams collaborated across offices in London, Dublin, Jakarta, and New York to navigate this challenging project.
Chelsea Barracks: Financing Prime London Development
Dentons advised lenders including Credit Suisse, Standard Chartered, Allied Irish Bank (AIB), Qatar National Bank, and National Bank of Kuwait in securing a £400 million green loan for the development of Phase 4 of Chelsea Barracks by Qatari Diar. This financial package supports the completion of the prestigious central London development, which includes 97 new apartments and amenities for residents. Dentons’ interdisciplinary team from Banking, Real Estate, and Tax practices worked together to facilitate this project.
Ghana Cocoa Board: Pre-export Financing for Cocoa Crop
Dentons Trade and Commodities team provided legal counsel to Ghana Cocoa Board in arranging a US$1.3 billion pre-export financing for Ghana’s 2022/23 cocoa crop. The firm played a key role in negotiations for the facility agreement and security documentation, as well as logistics related to security arrangements across COCOBOD’s annual and long-term financings.
RELX: Issuance of €750 million Guaranteed Notes
Dentons Debt Capital Markets and Trustee teams in London advised a syndicate of underwriters, including ABN AMRO, J.P. Morgan, Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking, TD Securities, and Wells Fargo Securities, on the issuance of €750 million 3.750% Guaranteed Notes due 2031 by RELX Finance B.V., guaranteed by RELX PLC. RELX is a FTSE 100-listed global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools. The proceeds from the bonds will be used for general corporate purposes.
3i Group plc: LIBOR Transition Project
Dentons advised 3i Group plc, a financial institution, on its LIBOR transition project involving negotiations of financing paperwork across 53 project finance transactions with 18 different lenders. The project engaged lawyers from Dentons Banking and Energy practices in Scotland and the Derivatives practice in London.
