The following transactions underscore Dentons commitment to providing comprehensive legal solutions across various industries and global jurisdictions. Our teams collaborate closely to deliver successful outcomes for our clients, ensuring their strategic objectives are met.

Let’s look at some examples of our work in practice.

Dentons Advises UK Government on Vital Energy Market Interventions

Dentons is proud to have provided legal counsel to the UK Government in its efforts to implement interventions in the energy markets aimed at reducing energy bills for households and businesses. These interventions were made possible through the Energy Prices Act 2022 and are a crucial step towards ensuring affordable energy access.

The UK Government recently introduced three significant initiatives:

  • Energy Price Guarantee for Households: Ensuring that households can access energy at reasonable rates.
  • Energy Bill Relief Scheme for Businesses: Providing much-needed support to businesses in managing energy costs.
  • Extension of the Energy Bill Support Scheme to Northern Ireland: Expanding the reach of vital energy support.

Dentons assembled a dedicated team of lawyers encompassing various specialties, including energy and public law, drawn from our UK offices. This collaborative effort is ongoing and reflects the broad scope of the project. To address the specific legal and regulatory considerations relevant to the schemes in Northern Ireland and the all-island area, Dentons engaged Tughans law firm in Northern Ireland. This collaboration ensured a comprehensive approach to legal support. Dentons and Tughans have worked closely with The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) legal team. Our involvement extends to supporting policy development, preparing legislation, scheme documents, and contracts.

Christopher McGee-Osborne, Co-Chair of Dentons global energy and global government practices, along with energy Partner Charles Wood, leads our team. Christopher emphasises the national importance and pace of this project. He highlights the team’s dedication to using expertise in energy markets and public law to make a significant difference in the lives of many individuals and businesses.

Dentons is honoured to have played a vital role in supporting the UK Government in these initiatives, which will have a far-reaching positive impact on energy affordability for households and businesses across the nation. We remain committed to leveraging our legal expertise to drive meaningful change and enhance access to essential services.
